Leeds based engineering company Pickersgill Kaye has benefited from a significant reduction in its scrap rates and made savings of £40k since joining the On-Machine Measurement programme.
For Pickersgill Kaye, which makes parts for the rail industry, engineering precision is critical. Before joining On-Machine it had identified a machine due for early replacement.
Renishaw, an On-Machine supporter company and provider of industrial metrology and calibration solutions, was invited to discuss ways to resolve Pickersgill Kaye’s measurement issues. This led to the offer of a short term loan from Renishaw of a QC10 ball bar calibration instrument to test the contouring accuracy on CNC machine tools.
According to David Wilcock, Production Services Manager at Pickersgill Kaye, the machine was re-calibrated using a Renishaw ML10 laser system within one and a half hours.
“Subsequent output has been of exceptional quality,” he said.
“Money earmarked for machine replacement is now funding capital investment elsewhere in the company. As a direct result of being involved with On-Machine, we identified substantial savings from a reduction in scrap materials.”
Following instruction and basic training from the On-Machine delivery team, Pickersgill Kaye were able to use the equipment to calibrate five CNC machining centres, finding two out of calibration.
